Wedding Day

If I am going to be honest with you, I have to say that I didn't really sleep that well last night for the excitement of the royal wedding (and because I was having anxiety that my alarm would not go off to wake me at 5am!)
Thankfully my alarm clock did go off right in time to see the royal family get in their cars on the way to Westminster Abbey, and more importantly, I got that first glimpse of Catherine getting into her car in her stunning Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen dress.  I think that it was perfectly regal, elegant and fitting for the Duchess of Cambridge.  Her flowers we also very fitting for the country girl, seasonably appropriate and very endearing with the Sweet William and traditional Myrtle.
Needless to say, I have been going around all day feeling like I went to the wedding and have sported puffy eyes from all the tears that I shed this morning!

(A lovely picture of the happy couple from Access Hollywood - includes a corner of those beautiful trees the graced the aisle of the Abbey)

(One of the balcony kisses!  Picture from the BBC)

(The bouquet!)

The perfect description of the flowers in Catherine's bouquet was on the Official Royal Wedding website:
Lily-of-the-valley – Return of happiness
Sweet William – Gallantry
Hyacinth – Constancy of love
Ivy: Fidelity; marriage; wedded love; friendship; affection
Myrtle: the emblem of marriage; love.

(The Wedding Cake, made by Fiona Cairns, was designed using the Joseph Lambert technique.  Picture from my new favorite Flickr stream - The British Monarchy)

I hope that William and Catherine had a perfect day and we wish them a life of love and happiness!

All aboard for a Spring wedding

We were really excited to make beautiful flower arrangements for Bride Robin this past Friday with her wedding aboard a boat here in NYC.  The colours were inspired and designed to fit the location, using a few pieces of greenery from the Tashi & Bobo garden and the rest were sourced from the flower market here in the city.
Now for the fun stuff - the pictures:

Getting inspired

What with spring in the air (let's just keep our fingers crossed we've seen the last of winter) and flowers blooming all around, I am feel inspired!  I wanted to share this inspiration board that I made for a client to help her decide what flowers she wants for her wedding tables and how to display them.  Pulling images from the internet and magazines is a great way to work out what you want for your flowers.  Below I've put them into 3 inspiration boards.

(The above images were pulled from the Tashi and Bobo archive and various wedding website)

I was out and about this weekend and came across some very sweet looking strawberry plants in Walmart of all places!  I had to have some! I also come home with a pretty ranunculus plant.  I got inspired to make a few arrangements... cute ideas for a spring table.  Enjoy!

Daffodils are here!

What better way to welcome the Spring Weather, then with a stunning and fun smelling bouquet of daffodils.

We just love these bright little guys!

It's a fun and simple bouquet, and just perfect for a spring wedding!

Daffodil Bouquet

A few fun facts about daffodils...it's botanical name "narcissus" is inspired by the Greek mythological of Narcissus who became obsessed with his own reflection so much that he starved to death. It's the origin of the word narcissistic.

Both the flowers and the bulb are slightly poisonous and shouldn't be eaten.

In NY, approx. 2,500,000 daffodils are grown each year.

Daffodils symbolize rebirth and new beginnings.

They're the traditional 10th Wedding Anniversary flower.

Shoot us an email if you're looking for wedding flowers, we still have a few weekends open this Spring!

Edible Real Estate...

What better way to celebrate your first birthday in your new house than with a HOUSE CAKE!?

Tashi and Bobo made our very first house cake a few weeks ago, and it sure was an adventure. Building a house cake is a more complicated than putting together a typical round stacked cake. Since a lot of the pieces have to be made ahead of time and then assembled once the actual cake part is built, putting together a little paper model is helpful.
House Cake

We used large wafers for the walls and roof structure, marzipan for the trees and rocks, fondant for the road, and fast hardening sugar paste for the balconies and other structural elements.

The walls of the house were made from peanut butter flavored candy coating, while the roof was covered in dark chocolate. And of course, the whole cake was given a heavy dosing of white icing for the snow that covers the house.
If you're in the market for some edible real estate, contact us for more info and a price quote!
